[12:33] hi! can be FAI used just to reconfigure a system (change hostname, net devices and config, regenerate ssh keys) after being cloned? Thx [12:33] yes [12:34] thx, i'll take a look [12:48] Mrfai (~lange@kueppers.informatik.uni-koeln.de) joined #fai. [12:48] juri_: the link in the fai wiki to your failint.sh script is broken. http://volumehost.com/~risc/failint.sh it would be nice to make the script available again [13:35] GheRivero (~ghe@245.145.218.87.dynamic.jazztel.es) left irc: Quit: Leaving [14:07] \sh (~shermann@nat.de.netviewer.com) joined #fai. [14:16] Mrfai: what do you think about adding a check whether we are running on an nfsroot with root_squash, and if so, where do you think we should add it? [15:06] <\sh> mgoetze: we should get rid of nfsroot, and eventually doing everything inside the initramfs with some magic to eventually mount the configspace via FUSE or other mechanics (just a random food for thought) [15:12] \sh: heh. maybe :) [15:19] <\sh> seriously, we could inject all the FAI needed software in the initramfs... it won't make a difference. The config space could be mounted via FUSE (httpsfs, svnfs, bzrfs, sshfs whatever) instead of doing the nfs netmount. [15:19] <\sh> the boot experience will be much faster (having pxe (dhcptftp is [15:19] <\sh> argl..bad enter key [15:20] <\sh> the boot experience will be much faster having pxe with dhcp+tftp as "nadeloehr" already [15:30] well where to get the configspace is already configurable [15:31] <\sh> right [15:32] <\sh> but loadbalancing NFS is a big hassle and not everyone has a reliable NFS server which can serve hundreds and thousands servers mounting at the same time ;) [15:49] siggg (~jean@tra78-5-88-172-128-32.fbx.proxad.net) joined #fai. [16:34] where is the source of the task fai_chboot ? [16:40] esto: /usr/lib/fai/subroutines [18:01] \sh replacing the nfsroot and using a big initramfs is not a good idea. First it causes much more network traffic, and if you try to keep the initramfs small it will cause a lot of work to detect which things from the nfsroot are needed and which are not. [18:02] Also NFS is scaling very well in the FAI environment. [18:03] Even a lot of people think it's not scaling well, noone realy had trouble with NFS. Even people, that have huge clusters with more that 1000 nodes, told me that NFS is not a problem. [18:04] So, before trying to replace NFS, show me people having problem with NFS. [18:05] I may have some advies how to tune it, and I like to get more information what the real NFS is in this cases.
