[13:22] Hi. I've just setup a new debian squeeze fai server. My old config space is based on the sample that shipped with fai for debian lenny. Are there any gotchas I should know about if I try and use my existing config space to install squeeze clients? Thanks. [13:24] hm :) [13:34] AlexJFisher: have a look at usr/share/doc/fai-client/NEWS.Debian.gz [13:37] thanks. [13:38] I did have one issue. I'm not sure if it's the new fai setup, or something about my servers/network. I need to specify live-netdev=eth0 in my kernel append options for the install to get past the IP-Config stage. [13:39] I googled this, and there seemed to be a number of references with people having similar (but not always identical) problems. [13:40] yes. [13:40] For instance, some people had problems caused by them having additional network cards installed. I'm just using the 2 built in ports on my poweredge server. [13:43] verwilst (~verwilst@router.begen1.office.netnoc.eu) left irc: Quit: Ex-Chat [13:49] There was also a problem with saving client logs to the fai-server. [13:49] Does the 'fai' user on the server need a shell other than /bin/false for this to work? [13:50] Shouldn't fai-setup chown /var/log/fai to be owned by user 'fai'? [13:50] why this? [13:50] depends on your needs [13:51] So far it hasn't been working. To debug, I've chrooted into the nfsroot and tried to scp anyfile to fai@fai-server:/var/log/fai [13:52] Without both setting the fai-server's 'fai' user's shell to bash and chowning /var/log/fai, this fails. [13:52] Of course, I may be totally wrong in my assumption of how the saving of log files occur. :) [13:55] I'll reinstall one of my clients and see if these changes fix the log saving (fai-chboot) issue. [14:18] It seems odd that fai-setup creates the $LOGUSER user and setups the ssh keys, but doesn't give LOGUSER the necessary shell. [14:18] so, your test failed? [14:18] no, it worked. [14:19] But out of the box, it doesn't. [14:23] The following line was removed from fai-setup. [14:23] perl -pi.bak -e "s#^$LOGUSER:.:(.+):/bin/false#$LOGUSER:*:\1:/bin/bash#" /etc/passwd [14:24] It's associated comment was :- [14:24] # there's a bug when the encrypted password is !, so change it to * [14:24] But i guess that's not the only thing that line did. :) [14:34] Shall I file a bug for this regression?
