[16:23] Ok, I worked around the grub issue by creating my own config instead of using update-grub, which is kind of lame, but will work... now I need that static IP stuff to work. I built a custom kernel, removed IP_PNP_DHCP, IP_PNP_BOOTP and IP_PNP_RARP but left IP_PNP and the thing is still trying to get a DHCP address. Any one have any ideas? Anyone else trying to use static IPs? [16:32] You do not need a special kernel for using a static IP. Just remove the class DHCPC. [16:44] Mrfai (~lange@suenner.informatik.uni-koeln.de) left irc: Quit: leaving [16:45] Mrfai: It hangs on boot waiting for an IP. Maybe I should have specified this was booting off a CD using an nfsroot... [16:46] and the kernel parameters ip=ip_addr:server_addr:gateway:netmask:hostname:eth0:off [16:47] I'm over in kernelnewbies asking, but I think it might be a kernel bug at this point, since it still tries to get a DHCP address with IP_PNP_DHCP unconfigured in the kernel. [17:23] use initramfs instead of the kernel ip settings. [17:38] ErKa (keryell@keryell.pck.nerim.net) joined #fai. [17:54] glance: can you offer any more details? [17:54] perhaps extracts the initramfs, but what would I modify? [17:57] specify ip= in the initrd instead of the linux line? [18:08] no. let the initramfs process the ip= cmdline instead of the linux kernel [18:09] /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/{nfs,live} depending on how you boot [18:24] ok, I guess I'm not sure how switch this... I see in /usr/share/initramfs-tools/live where it would try to process the IP, I'm not sure where to set the parameters. I assumed it was being handled by the kernel, but now I guess I don't know... should I add a nodhcp flag? [18:27] I guess this is my question. So in grub I'm setting 'linux /boot/vmlinux boot=live ip=ip_addr:server_ip:netmask:etc ....' and I assumed it was the kernel processing the ip= stuff. How do I get initramfs to process it? [18:33] hmm.. within the nfsroot this stuff seems to live in /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/live though.... [18:43] siggg (~jean@tra78-5-88-172-128-32.fbx.proxad.net) joined #fai.
