[13:51] seems to be hindering my FAI install of course. [13:53] i had that too, then switched to grml-live and grml kernel and it went away [13:54] so you switched to a grml-live nfsroot? [13:55] snark: i'm not running into this problem even though unless for builds on openvz, what exactly are you deploying? [13:55] s/even though// [13:56] alekibango (~alekibang@ip-94-113-35-25.net.upcbroadband.cz) joined #fai. [13:56] Lucid off a squeeze nfsroot [13:56] using amd64 kernel [13:57] linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64 [13:57] seems to be a ubuntu specific bug then, hmm [13:57] or does it show up even in the squeeze nfsroot? [13:57] the bug report seems to say it's for all chroot's, but maybe not? [13:58] I'm not sure how to best test that... [13:58] it could be the it only impacts the lucid nfsroot [13:59] since I'm trying to run grub-update from the lucid root [14:47] It seems to work with a lenny nfsroot, so I'm leaning toward it being a squeeze issue somehow... [15:41] snark: well, a debian nfsroot with a grml kernel mostly [15:41] ok, so it might be a kernel issue? [15:41] yea [15:41] grml kernel and modules I'm assuming... [15:41] anything else from grml I would need? [15:42] the script detecting the hdd device nodes was kind of hacky in that department [15:42] it would only accept /dev/ nodes that were owned by group "disk" [15:42] which wasn't the case with the debian kernel [15:43] hmm.... I wonder what the issue with the kernel is... [15:43] at least not at the initramfs stage [16:52] Mrfai (~lange@suenner.informatik.uni-koeln.de) left irc: Quit: leaving [17:06] maxy (~maxy@190.55.95.11) left irc: Ping timeout: 480 seconds [17:07] maxy (~maxy@190.55.95.11) joined #fai. [21:08] so I decided to try using ubuntu for the nfs root, but I think it's failing to load the firmware for my fabulous broadcom (bnx2) NICs, anyone ever see that? causes kernel panic. It looks like the firmware is in the initrd image though... [21:24] al: Did you have to build your grml kernel from source? [21:24] snark: no [21:25] what's the binary package? I only see the src packages [21:26] nm, if I just use it with apt instead of looking for the package in the repo it seems to find it somehow... [21:52] al: if I have a squeeze root, and I install the grml kernel, what do I need to do to use it? update-initramfs and change the symlinks in / ? anything else? [21:54] specifically to use it with a fai-cd [21:54] http://wiki.fai-project.org/index.php/Grml_Kernel [21:55] thankls [21:55] uh, update-initramfs should be it [21:56] I have to re-create the nfsroot ?!? [21:56] al: when I did that it didn't update the links in / , but maybe that doesn't matter? [21:56] if they're dangling that sure does matter [21:56] usually a dpkg post-install script should take care of that though [22:00] hmm... it got installed with a really old date so that wasn't happening... [22:01] since fai-cd uses the new image [22:01] newst too [22:21] ok, still having update-grub issues with grml :( will play again tomorrow. [22:48] partner_ (joonas@ajaton.net) joined #fai.
