07:37 pav5088Is there any news on Debian Squeeze + FAI?  ie. does it work, are there any caveats etc?
07:39 hacmanpav5088: It does work using the grml-kernel
07:40 pav5088grml?
07:41 \shhttp://grml.org/
07:41 \shmikaps project :)
07:42 hacmandebian still has no aufs support in squeeze - so just take the precompiled kernel from mikap ;) (it can be found in the fai repository)
07:45 pav5088OK...  sounds like a workable solution...  (I've had some problems before).   I'll give it a shot.

08:12 pav5088I was just speaking to Benoit Mortier and he said he was having problems getting FAI to install Squeeze, but it was OK installing Lenny...  would this be related to the same problem?
08:13 pav5088(he's a GOsa guy...  and apparently the FAI integration probably won't go into Squeeze because of the problems they've been having)
08:14 pav5088He already new about the -U workaround
08:31 mikappav5088: do you (or Benoit) use a lenny nfsroot? it's supposed to work just fine
08:45 \shmikap, can you have a look at this mail from pete graner? https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2010-June/030952.html <- replacement of aufs2
08:48 mikap\sh: thanks for the pointer, strong ack from my POV as well, i'm looking forward to the mainline solution for union mounts as well, though a) they need to provide features we're used to get via aufs[2] and b) before using it in the wild we need some stablizing (aufs had e.g. issues with kde on live systems in the past which were quite tricky and hard to fix)
08:48 mikapso using aufs2 for maverick sounds sane and i'd go that way as well
08:51 \shmikap, as I read the mail, they want to replace aufs2 after alpha-2/alpha-3
allee-k (~allee-k@alleehol.mpe.mpg.de) joined #fai.
08:58 mikap\sh: i read it just that they want to update current aufs2 code to recent git code after alpha-2/alpha-3
08:59 \shmikap, ah yes..they want to put it on the list for maverick+1 or +2 ;)
08:59 mikapyeah
09:00 mikapasking for a friend: is it possible to run fai softupdates during system shutdown?
09:02 pav5088mikap, so it's not possible yet without a Lenny nfsroot, or does the grml_kernel address this problem also?
Action: pav5088 = writing documentation for the GOsa project in anticipation for the release of Debian Squeeze.
09:05 mikappav5088: i know that several fai users/developers use lenny nfsroot for deploying lenny, squeeze, ubuntu, sles,& because it causes less headache than anything else
09:05 mikappav5088: and several of them use the grml kernel to avoid problems with aufs and to get a recent kernel version providing good hardware support
09:30 \shmikap, now it should also be possible to do that with ubuntu lucid ;)
09:31 mikap\sh: well, lucid != generic ;)
09:31 mikap\sh: any idea about "is it possible to run fai softupdates during system shutdown?"
09:33 \shmikap, sorry..nope...I don't use softupdates :(
09:34 \shbut theoretically if you have a task during shutdown before halt/reboot somwhere in rc.6
09:37 mgoetzemikap: in principle it should of course be possible, what init system is the question for?
09:39 mikapmgoetze: i guess sysvrc
09:39 mikapif they use upstart they have other problems anyway ;)</insider>
09:42 mgoetzeright so basically just create an init script to do it and link it as rc[06].d/K01fai i guess
09:43 mikapthanks!
09:45 \shmikap, hehe..yes they have ;
