12:15 codahi there!
12:15 mgoetzehi
12:16 codaexcuse me guys, does anybody know if I could use fai-server to install 64bit clients if my fai-server is 32bit?
12:16 codahi mgoetze :)
12:16 oz_yes.
12:16 mgoetzeyes, you can. you will need to generate a 64-bit nfsroot
12:16 oz_just provide a 32bit nfsroot
12:16 mgoetzethis is possible in new fai versions if you have a 64-bit kernel on your 32-bit system
12:16 mgoetzeotherwise you need to generate it somewhere else and copy it over
12:16 codaoh, great
12:17 codaby the moment I'm using 2.6.26-2-686, let's see what I can do :P
12:17 codathank you very much guys
12:19 codajust in case (and sorry for my ignorance), do you know if I just install linux-image-2.6.26-2-amd64 should work without problems?
12:20 mgoetzeshould work fine as long as your cpu supports it
12:20 codaok, thanks again!

13:27 tklassenHallo zusammen
13:28 tklassenWas kann ich dagegen machen das Debian automatisch nach der Install durch FAI die Netzwerkdevices umbenennt? Aus eth0 wird seltsamerweise immer eth2
13:28 tklassenAuch bei physikalischen Maschinen
13:33 alleecheck your /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules   maybe the installed system has one with eth0 and eht1 already defined.  So on boot udev uses eth2
13:33 tklassenhmh
13:33 tklassenone second please
13:34 tklassen no free leases
13:35 tklassenThere are some thjngs registered
13:35 tklassenBut how comes?
13:38 tklassenShould I replace the file with an empty one by default during the installation?
13:38 alleetklassen: check MAC of eth*.  On which host do they exist?     Did you ever start udev in the fai nfsroot?
13:39 tklassenNo I have never done this
13:40 alleemaybe you config space settings copy/create a faulty one?
13:40 tklassenhmh
13:41 tklassenmy Server has one of this bnx2 network devices in it.
13:41 tklassenSo I had to add the driver via usb Stick during the Installation
13:44 tklassenLooks like this is the error
13:44 tklassenthe MAC Adress for eth0 is the same like on the Server
13:44 alleetklassen: check /var/tmp/base.tgz in you FAI nfsroot.  The 70-persistent-net.rules  should contain no entries
13:46 alleeif there are entries then something is wrong
13:47 tklassenThere are entries in it
13:47 tklassenThe same as on the serverside
13:47 tklassenunfortunately
13:51 codaexcuse me mgoetze, are you still there?
13:51 mgoetzeyes
13:53 codamgoetze: sorry, I've noticed that my fai-server's cpu does not support the amd64 kernel.. do you know if there is any document to see which files to copy if I generate my 64bit kernel somewhere else?
13:53 coda(sorry for my poor english :S )
13:53 mgoetzeyou need to generate an nfsroot. just install fai, run make-fai-nfsroot, and copy over the contents of (by default) /srv/fai/nfsroot
13:55 tklassenSo the best way for me would be to create a /network/interfaces file with eth2 in it right? Just to get rid of the trouble with the bnx2 driver
13:55 mgoetzetklassen: no, best would be to fix your base.tgz by removing (entries from) 70-persistent-net.rules
13:57 tklassenhmh but I have to remind on that everytime I do fai-setup right?
13:57 mgoetzeideally you would figure out why it happened because it's not supposed to
sts_ (~sts@hmm.ono.at) left irc: Remote host closed the connection
13:58 codaahhm, I already have an nfsroot (32bits).. should I just copy it for example to /srv/fai/nfsroot-amd64 and replace the kernel files? I've tried by creating a new /etc/fai-amd64, updating the make-fai-nfsroot.conf by changing paths and adding --arch amd64, and running make-fai-nfsroot -v -C/etc/fai-amd64, but it just fails :(
13:58 tklassenI think it happens because of a warning during the fai-setup caused by the network card
13:58 mgoetzecoda: no. you need a completely 64-bit nfsroot and base.tgz. not just the kernel.
13:59 codamgoetze: oh, ok.. I got it
13:59 codamgoetze: thanks again :)
14:00 alleetklassen: why not add  70-persistent-net.rules  should contain no entries  without any eth* entry to your config.   So you 'reset' the wrong one in base.tzg
14:01 tklassenok
14:02 tklassenI will try this tomorrow, I promise ;)
14:02 alleetklassen: ;)
14:04 tklassenI have a lot of fences to jump over, before GNOME and everything around is like I want it to.
