09:40 uchimataI can specify host-* in classes, but how can I tell fai-chboot to generate a config for hosts host-*? 'host-*'/'host-\*' as an hostname does not work?
09:44 Mrfaifai-chboot can't use wildcard. But you can use a template. Or create a pxelinux.cfg file using fai-chboot and rename it, so it matches a whole subnet range
09:45 MrfaiSince pxelinux.cfg file names are the IP address in hex, you can't use hostname wildcard there.
09:58 uchimatahm, ok.... subnet range sounds great :)
10:00 uchimataso... the hostname then must be .0/24 in hex, e.g.?
10:01 uchimataor only 10.0.0.?
10:28 nabouluchimata:  10.0.0.
10:28 uchimatanaboul: thx :)
10:47 uchimatacan I use wildcards when using templates?
10:50 Mrfaino
10:54 uchimatais there kind of a priorisation when I define a file for a whole subnet and one special file for a single host in that subnet?

11:06 MrCatEyebut FAI does not add the user
11:08 MrCatEyehow can this problem be fixed?
11:08 uchimataMrCatEye: did you read the logs?
11:08 mgoetzeMrCatEye: by understanding how fai works
11:08 mgoetzeMrCatEye: you might want to read up on what $ROOTCMD does...

12:34 uchimatawould this be the correct line for toggling the bootable flag?
12:34 uchimataprimary  /             250  ext3   rw,errors=remount-rocreateopts="boot"
12:34 uchimatahm... obviously, there's a space missing
12:35 uchimataonly in the paste...
12:35 MrfaiAFAICS you are using the old partitioning tool. It's better to use the new one.
12:36 uchimatahm... I just wanted to adjust the file given by FAI-BASE ;)
12:43 Mrfaiin most cases the boot flag for a partition is not needed
12:49 uchimataMrfai: true, but this system refuses to boot without the flag
12:49 uchimatawhen I set the bootable flag using a live cd, everything works fine
12:50 uchimatabtw, the line I pasted above did not work ;)

14:45 Adri2000hi
14:46 Adri2000I've got a problem with fai 3.3
14:47 Adri2000the config directory doesn't get mounted on the client
14:47 Adri2000while the nfsroot is successfully mounted
14:48 Adri2000if I try to manually mount the config directory it complains about rpc.statd not running, which is true
14:48 Adri2000launching rpc.stard manually works - so why isn't it automatically launched? and how can I fix that?
14:48 Adri2000s/stard/statd/
14:57 Adri2000or, as a workaround, it could be mounted with -o nolock - but where should I add this option?
15:01 uchimataAdri2000: so I think statd must be running on the fai-server?
15:01 Adri2000mount.nfs: rpc.statd is not running but is required for remote locking.
15:01 Adri2000mount.nfs: Either use '-o nolock' to keep locks local, or start statd.
15:02 Adri2000as I understand it, it should be running on the client
15:02 Adri2000but in any case it is also running on the server
15:02 uchimataso did you try it with running statd on server-side?
15:04 Adri2000yes, it's running the server from the beginning
15:04 Adri2000but what is needed for the mount to work is that it's running on the client
15:08 uchimatastrange :)
15:11 Adri2000what is strange? that fact that statd must be running? or the fact that it isn't running on the client?
15:13 uchimatathat it is not running on the client, never had this problem
15:13 uchimatabut I'm not a fai expert though ;)

15:51 NabilouIs it possible to copy files from my FAI server to the client?
15:53 Nabiloufor example my websites to the appropriate directory (/var/www for example)
15:57 MrfaiAll file you like to copy to your client should be located in your config space.
15:57 MrfaiBut you may write a hook, that copies files from other directories.
16:02 NabilouMrfai : thanks
16:09 uchimatais there a way to copy entire directories? like dcopy when thinking of fcopy ;-)
16:17 Nabilouuchimata: I'm not sute i understood the question but using "-r" may help you
16:17 Nabilousure*
16:18 uchimataNabilou: jep, it's an nice option, but I would have to create all directories according to filenames..... but it's not an actual question though, rather smalltalk about fai :)
verwilst (~verwilst@router.begen1.office.netnoc.eu) left irc: Quit: Ex-Chat
16:24 Adri2000actually my problem is related to upstart - the statd failure is due to /etc/init/statd.conf missing
16:25 Adri2000it looks like a lot of files are missing in my nfsroot
16:25 Nabilouuchimata: you can create a loop to list all your files names then create directories.
16:26 Adri2000exapmple, if I apt-get install nfs-common in the nfsroot, it won't install the files in /etc/init/
16:26 Nabilou...according to the fils names of course
16:26 Nabilou*files
16:26 Mrfaithere's also a ftar command in FAI.

16:35 Adri2000so, any idea why if I chroot the nfsroot, and then apt-get install nfs-common, some files listed in dpkg -L nfs-common are not actually there
16:35 Adri2000?
16:35 uchimataMrfai: ah, of course... did not know about this yet
16:40 MrfaiAdri2000: try again make-fai-nfsroot -v and have a look at the log file. There should be no errors.
16:42 Adri2000trying
16:54 Adri2000I don't see any wrong in that log
16:54 Adri2000to make my problem clear, see: (I'm inside the chroot)
16:54 Adri2000# dpkg -L nfs-common | grep init/statd
16:54 Adri2000/etc/init/statd.conf
16:54 Adri2000# ls /etc/init/statd.conf
16:54 Adri2000ls: cannot access /etc/init/statd.conf: No such file or directory

17:08 Mrfaithere was a small fix concerning upstart.conf
17:09 Mrfaihave a look at the fai commit mails. http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/fai-commit/2010-January/002777.html
17:12 Adri2000doesn't seem to fix my problem
17:13 Adri2000btw, I haven't explained everything. what happends right now when I boot a box on my fai, is that fai fails when it comes to partitioning the hard disk, saying it cannot find disk_config
17:13 Adri2000which makes sense because at that point nfsroot is mounted but config directory is not
17:14 Adri2000mounting it manually fails as I said earlier, and that's why I went to that statd problem
17:37 mgoetzei'm close to trying my first lucid installation, but my plan at first will be to install from a lenny nfsroot

19:57 sergeguys, I have a small question.  I've configured FAI on Etch, run fai-setup... Everything was ok. When I started to install a client, I got "/var/lib/fai/config/class not found Problems accessing the config space.  Then I copied the content of   /srv/fai/config  to /srv/fai/nfsroot/var/lib/fai/config - the problem was solved. Why the setup didn't do it proper way? The /srv/fai/config  is what for then?..
20:00 serge..btw, I've succeeded to configure and to install an i386 client from amd64 server...  ..I've got both sets on the same server for i386 and for amd64 - this one isn't tested yet as I have no spare amd64 PC to ruin..  ;)
