[13:34] ok. i now tried to install a system with LVM/GRUB-PC. I added the patches I found in the FAI repository for GRUB_PC. The kernel is loaded correctly now and I can boot kernel and initrd. But then I end up in the initrd because it doesn't find the root partition. [13:34] fai: 3 lange committed revision 5695 to 7 fai: lib/mkramdisk: new script that mounts a ramdisk onto a directory and [13:34] fai: copies its contents to the ramdisk, can also umount the ramdisk and [13:34] fai: put the modified contents back to the hard disks, this script is a [13:34] fai: modified version of mkrw from FAI 3.1.8. [13:35] seems like there is no /bin/ls in the initrd. and cd /dev/mapper doesn't work either (FAI specified root=/dev/mapper/VG0-LVroot). [13:35] also I cannot run any lvm specific tools like pvscan, etc. [13:37] any advice on how i can add lvm tools to the initrd? [14:19] GRUB2 + mdadm/lvm2 packages FTW! [14:19] Action: sts dance [14:28] \sh: around? [14:41] <\sh> sts, somehow :) [15:08] ^Miaou^ (~AntoineR@81-64-14-57.rev.numericable.fr) joined #fai. [15:08] <^Miaou^> hello! [15:12] sts: hm, they SHOULD get added to the initrd automagically... are you using a standard kernel and initramfs-tools? [15:13] sts: if you don't have /bin/ls make it a link to busybox (assuming you have that) [15:13] <\sh> mgoetze, if /bin/ls doesn't work, /bin/ln doesn't work too [15:14] <\sh> I think it's more a problem with initramfs generation itself...the default should have it [15:14] <\sh> I'm not sure about LVM tools..but normally this is already a standard [15:14] "busybox ln /bin/busybox /bin/ls" [16:16] verwilst (~verwilst@router.begen1.office.netnoc.eu) left irc: Quit: Ex-Chat [17:01] Mrfai (~lange@suenner.informatik.uni-koeln.de) left irc: Quit: leaving [17:09] siggg (~jean@tra78-3-82-244-85-196.fbx.proxad.net) left irc: Quit: Leaving. [17:12] mgoetze, \sh: i'm not sure whether ls is working now, but when i selected lvm2 and mdadm for the install clients everything was working like a charme. [17:14] \sh: no actually i wondered whether you did any process with FAImgr and whether you are planning to put any updates online soon. :) [17:16] \sh: i think it would be great to see how to integrate a script for collecting values and storing them in a database and how to retrive certain information (eg. doing a more complex etc/network/interfaces config)... [21:13] Hi guys! I'm new to FAI. Have installed all fai-* pkgs on Etch and trying to configure it. According to docs I run fai-setup -v and at the end I got: "Error. Kernel package /usr/lib/fai/kernel/linux-image-2.6.18-fai-kernels_1_i386.deb not found". What's wrong with my setup and what to do?.. [21:14] serge: well the first thing that's wrong is that you're still doing new deployments with etch, which will be EOL next month [21:15] serge: anyway, did you also install the fai-kernels package? [21:15] yes [21:16] i've forgotten all these details, there is no seperate fai-kernels package in lenny... [21:16] ...sorry but we are not planning to switch to Lenny yet.. Am I out of luck then..? [21:17] I was trying lenny, last year but there were some troubles with it (don't remember what was exactly...) [21:18] well, if you stay here long enough maybe someone will remember. [21:18] do you have anything at all in /usr/lib/fai/kernel? [21:20] -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5941256 2009-08-24 13:12 linux-image-2.6.18-fai-kernels_1_amd64.deb [21:20] well, you had better decide whether you are doing 32bit things or 64bit things, i suppose [21:21] this is amd64 CPU system [21:21] and we are going to install it also to amd64 PCs [21:21] so why is it looking for the 32bit kernel? check your fai configuration (especially the debootstrap bits) [21:22] ohh, I see... Thanks. [21:23] np [21:23] do i need to restart fai-setup -v after that...? [21:24] that's probably easiest [21:51] siggg (~jean@tra78-5-88-172-128-32.fbx.proxad.net) joined #fai.
