Same/similar error [13:46] .. also I'm using FAI 3.3.2, yet I seem to be using setup_storage 1.0.3 - is that right [13:46] ? [13:49] Joelio: first of all, you can check the syntax of a config file just by running setup-storage on it [13:50] Joelio: secondly, note that the version of setup-storage that gets used is determined by the version of fai-client installed in your nfsroot [13:52] mgoetze, I did like this.. setup-storage -f POSTGRESQL [13:52] which gave me [13:52] # [13:52] setup-harddisks is running in test-only mode [13:52] Environment variable disklist is not set [13:52] and that's it [13:53] Also, I regenerated my nfsroot yesterday, so presuambly setup-storage should be the latest. I'm using the FAI debian repo.. [13:54] are you also using the fai debian repo in /etc/fai/apt/sources.list ? [13:55] you can test with e.g. disklist="/dev/sda /dev/sdb" setup-storage -f POSTGRESQL [13:55] ahh, ok, makes sense! [14:17] hi [14:18] I have a stupid question :) I have FAI and an image of a debian node (just tar.gz image of the whole machine without /proc /mnt etc.). I have no debian mirror or proxy, just the tar.gz file. Is it possible to extract the image on remote machine using FAI? It sounds simple but I don't know the solution :( [14:19] I don't want to download/install any modules, just extract the image. [14:22] Emkei: it's possible, sure, though there are probably easier ways to do that sort of thing, FAI is designed for something else... [14:25] mgoetze: thx, I know :( ...but, do you have any idea how to do it with FAI? I just need some hints... [14:28] Emkei: well you can put your tar file in basefiles and write a bunch of hooks to skip all the tasks you don't need [14:29] Emkei: whatever you do, read the fai guide... [14:29] Anyone know how I can update the nfsroot to have the latest FAI packages... I'm sure they're the latest. I've uncommented out the FAI line in /etc/fai/apt/sources.list and ran another make-fai-nfsroot. If I chroot into the nfsroot setup-storage is 1.1.4. However, when I make a CD, the cd still says it's 1.0.3? [14:45] hello [14:45] hello [14:45] i was wondering if there is any web based frontend for fai [14:46] i.i.r.c someone wrote one in Django, but I don't think they ever properly released the code [14:46] there's an console/X GUI call faimond [14:47] yah .. i've seen the screenshots in the website.. but i was really hoping for a clientless multi-platform solution [14:49] hmm, FAI is very debian centric and I don't reckon that'll change anytime soon. There are patches of SuSE etc.. maybe cobbler with kickstart (supported by the debian installer and anaconda) [14:49] but then again, I'ma debian person at heart and have begun to love FAI (when I can make it work!) [14:49] leOff: have a look at GOSa [14:50] i want it to manage debian boxes ... but without forcing the managers to have a debian box [14:50] =) [14:50] leOff: oh, so when you say multi-platform, you don't mean the install targets [14:51] yep .. just the managing workstations [14:52] I take it the 'management' doesn't know how to use SSH then? :P [14:54] streuner_1 (RetHo1g@lxproxy4.bfinv.de) left #fai. [14:54] it actually can, but the idea is provide a centralized, clientless multi-platform solution =) [14:55] I've just tried to take a look at gosa-project.org and the site seems to be down [14:57] Mrfai (~lange@suenner.informatik.uni-koeln.de) left irc: Quit: leaving [14:58] i've also been peeping at cfengine .. [15:05] looking at the "FAI Djangofied" thread .. there's even a youtube video, but then no link to anywhere [15:05] *sigh* [15:08] yea, seem a little like vapourware when I saw it, the guy didn't want to post the code.. shame [15:09] he wouldn't post the code even after being asked to? [15:09] leOff: I'm developing a configuration management system using Chef (specifically 0.8 version). I love it, but it's horses for courses as they say [15:09] yea, strange, said he was going to clean up the code and post it but never happened [15:09] hmm.. i was thinking about droping him a line... [15:10] at least not that I'm aware.. been sat on these lists and IRC quite often [15:10] I think the code will be released, but often people do not have the time to do it. [15:10] You should ask on the mailing list for the code. This may help. [15:10] in that case, I think he wasn't allowed to [15:10] yea, would be great to test it! [15:10] it was sherman, right? [15:10] oz__: yep [15:11] leOff: yea, he wasn't allowed to. the presentation was the maximum he could do. [15:11] ahh, was it code worked on for a job and there was restrictions? makes more sense.. [15:11] blame the business suites, please. :) [15:11] teasing us :) [15:11] hmm.. mind if i ask ... [15:12] why isn't the channel on freenode?... just wondering [15:12] =) [15:12] oz__: when did sherman say, that he was not allowed to publish the code? Do you have any references? [15:15] leOff: because irc.debian.org points to oftc, presumably [15:15] Mrfai: do we have an irc log? [15:15] I think he said it here [15:16] oz__: /topic [15:16] mgoetze: yes. [15:16] anyway, dentist time :( see you later [15:18] I'm still having trouble getting the latest setyup-storage. I've even rerun fai-setup -v and re-ran fai-mirror. My /etc/fai/apt/sources.list contains the correct FAI line. Chrooting into the newly created NFSROOT shows setup-storage 1.1.4. any ideas?? [15:18] It's still 1.0.3 according to the installer :( [15:18] must be missing something simple.. [15:19] maybe your client mounts a different nfsroot. [15:20] it's a CD Mrfai. Using fai-cd [15:20] which I mount up on a Dell DRAC to remotely install [15:21] (no PXE infrastructure) [15:21] I do have a seperate fai-i386 config directory, but that shouldn't be getting touched [15:27] oz__: Do you found any references? [15:28] Mrfai: don't have the time now, work... [15:28] maybe it's faster to drop him a line via mail [15:31] Mrfai: if you're going to bring it up, maybe i shouldn't email him also .. what do you think? [15:31] leOff: I will mail him [15:32] ok .. i'll keep an eye on the list [15:32] thanks =) [15:38] one other thing .. i know that fai is mostly used for deploying .. but i'm a bit concerned about the "maintaining" part ... centralized package management, etc [15:38] can i count on that too? [15:39] fai-softupdate? [15:39] I'm personally just using to bootstrap the configuration client (chef) and then letting that manage the rest of the show [15:39] hmm.. i probably should go read the docs now .. ;) [15:39] yea, me too! :) [16:07] leOff: yes, i can recommend fai softupdates for keeping your systems in the desired state :) [16:47] ErKa (keryell@dhcp3.info.enstb.org) left irc: Ping timeout: 480 seconds [17:03] Ok, I finally have a new nfsroot with the latest FAI :) (woo!)
