09:54 Winkiehello there, I'm using a newish version of FAI with setup-storage and trying to ensure that it wipes all old partitions, there's no preserve_ option set and all of the partitions are linux, but for some reason it seems to have kept an old windows partition around
09:54 Winkiethe config file is essentially the default FAIBASE
09:55 Winkiebut it seems to have kept a second primary partition around, is there any way to say 'wipe this all'?
09:55 Winkiemaybe 'preserve_reinstall' ?
10:06 Winkieaha oh wait
10:06 Winkieperhaps fdisk -l is not displaying things in a nice way
10:06 Winkiebecause cfdisk shows a portion of the disk remaining unpartitioned
10:06 Winkiewhich could explain it :)
10:15 Mrfaihave a look at flag_initial=1  # used by setup-storage
10:16 WinkieMrfai: yeah i thought of that, i'm now 99% sure it was just fdisk -l confusing me
10:16 Winkieit seems to be working fine :)
10:16 WinkieMrfai: do you know if the AUFS problems on Ubuntu/2.6.28 have been resolved?
10:37 MrfaiNo, I do not know the status of aufs and ubuntu
10:38 mgoetze\sh probably knows more about that
10:58 Winkiemgoetze: roger that, i guess you've namedropped so hopefully (s)he'll see later on
10:59 Winkiethanks for the advice, it definitely was my terrible reading of fdisk that screwed me up, and FAI is as usual working excellently

11:10 JoelioHi!
11:11 JoelioIs there any way that I can create an ISO of all the packaged needed for install? currently I'm using the boot-only cd to bootstrap and NFS export.. but the I need to install a box remotely.
11:11 JoelioThe server is a dell with a DRAC so I could mount an ISO, but it'd need to have all of the packages installed, as the NFS mount won't be present (firewalls, private IPs etc..)
11:12 Joeliois this a job for fai-cd?
11:19 oz__Joelio: definitely, yes.
11:23 JoelioE: Malformed line 12 in source list /home/debmirror/aptcache/etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse)
11:23 Joeliowhen trying to run fai-mirror
11:41 JoelioAnyone seen this before?
11:44 Joeliocracked it :)
11:47 JoelioERROR: No suitable Packages file found in mirror.
11:47 JoelioNow :(

12:08 Joeliogrr.. it seems fai-mirror is failing again.. it's breaking at
12:08 JoelioE: Couldn't find package nfs-common
12:08 Joeliowtf?
12:08 Joelioit does run through the rest of the packages though
12:14 oz__Joelio: /etc/fai/apt/sources.list cooorect?
12:14 oz__correct, even.
12:25 Joelioyes, all present and accounted for..

14:39 \shWho wanted something?
14:40 \shWinkie: Regarding http://faiwiki.informatik.uni-koeln.de/index.php/UbuntuJauntyInstallationHowTo it works with jaunty and jaunty has 2.6.28
14:45 Winkie\sh: it was me
14:46 Winkie\sh: a while ago, probably a month or so, i tried jaunty and debian with 2.6.28
14:46 Winkieand every time i consistently got a kernel panic
14:46 Winkiei suspect i sent you the pics of the screen
14:46 Winkiedo you remember this problem? can you confirm whether it's fixed?
14:46 \shWinkie: robert markula posted this howto...and for him it worked
14:46 \shWinkie: nope..I'm still using lenny for deploying ubuntu servers
14:47 Winkie\sh: right, well i'll give it a go then i guess, we're also using lenny, but the problem is we have Dell Optiplex 320s
14:47 Winkiewhich will only boot reliably on >=2.6.28
14:47 Winkieand 2.6.28 consistently gave a nasty kernel panic on debian/ubuntu and 3 different bits of hardware :(
14:47 Winkiehopefully that's fixed now, i'll let you know
14:48 \shWinkie: would you pls send me your email again...so I can have a look again in my mail archive
14:50 Winkie\sh: i don't know if i sent you an email, or just links to some pictures i took
14:50 Winkieone second, i will check my logs
14:50 Winkiebugger, don't have logs from that far back on here
14:51 \shWinkie: anyways...I would direct you to robert markula from here...(check the ML archives) he's reachable via mail
14:51 \sh(dunno if he's on irc)
14:51 Winkie\sh: right, well first things first is to actually test it
14:51 Winkiei will check out whether it works
14:55 \shWinkie: hehe :) I'm testing too...just working on a marriage of FAI + django as frontend
15:00 Winkie\sh: oh god django
15:00 Winkiesorry i have a lot of python and any web 2.0 hate
15:00 Winkiei'm just looking to have a consistent image across 40 or so PCs without having to manually install them
15:05 \shWinkie: hehe...I'm at 250 now :) so I need something which can be used as frontend for the juniors to install servers...
15:09 Winkie\sh: you're lucky if you don't have any optiplex 320s!
15:12 Winkieanyway i'm just setting up the basic FAI on this machine now
15:12 Winkiei have 50 mins left here
15:15 \shWinkie: I don't buy any dell hardware anymore :)
15:15 Winkie\sh: we tried that, bought some HP desktops, they're almost as bad
15:16 Winkie\sh: who do you use for desktop PCs?
15:16 \shlenovo :)
15:16 \shdesktops and laptops
15:16 \shi mean the desktops are built with laptop hardware ,)
15:17 Winkiehaha they are?
15:17 \shsome of the models yes
15:17 mgoetzewho needs desktops anyway?
kai_bo (~kai@statdsl-085-016-072-173.ewe-ip-backbone.de) left irc: Quit: Verlassend
15:17 \shmgoetze: workstations is much better..and more expensive..and those machines you are building from scratch ;)
15:24 Winkieoh bugger
15:24 Winkiei had forgotten that ubuntu 9.04, the fai-server comes with hardy in the sources.list
15:24 \shWinkie: right...it's still an old version of fai..working on an update these days
15:26 Winkie\sh: that's fine, it's whether i get a crash on the client that matters to me
15:27 Winkiethe howto you linked me to was very extensive, but i think i have covered all the normal things
15:27 Winkieso we'll see in about 10 mins when it finishes bootstrapping
