[00:17] ErKa (keryell@keryell.pck.nerim.net) left irc: Ping timeout: 480 seconds [01:13] assuming someone (not me, someone starting to play with FAI) wants to install from USB as he can't use a DHCP server: the fai guide mentions: "fai-cd -m /path/to/mirror -u /path/to/mounted/stick" => what's the minimum that has to be available as /path/to/mirror so it works? normal "debmirror"-stuff? [01:14] should he just use fai-mirror? [01:16] or /usr/share/doc/fai-doc/examples/utils/mkdebmirror? too many options to choose from :) [04:10] It depends on your package list [04:10] I'd suggest running it on a hard drive first to see how much space it needs [04:11] (If you're worried about size) [04:11] Our fai-mirror size is about 600MB. [09:05] I'm having a weird problem...I have in $FAI/debconf/CLASS this content -> http://paste.debian.net/41412/ <- which theoretically would make the final system have German language by default. However, when I check "debconf-get-selections" on the installed system they are not those I posted, but english ones, and the system language is in English as well... I've installed the frimware-bnx2 package inside the nfsroot, and regenerated the initrd image with update-initramfs. I have a /lib/firmware folder with the firmware files in it. fai is installed from standard lenny packages. [10:56] Anny suggestions? [11:09] The servers I'm trying to install with fai is HP DL360/380 G5 [11:17] Strange, now it somehow works... [19:39] Rankin: no, i haven't [19:44] ext3 [19:44] Rankin: are you using setup-storage or the older setup-harddisks? [19:46] Default in lenny seems to bee setup-harddisks [19:46] as i recall the simple-examples that come with lenny use setup-storage... [19:55] mgoetze: Yes, that seems to bee correct, http://pastebin.com/d3243e99c This is what happens, and the diskcofig [19:56] eh? cciss? what kind of hardware is this? [19:57] HP [19:57] HP servers [19:57] well yes but... surely not just normal SAS oder SATA? [19:57] iSCSI or something? [19:58] i mean, why is it not called /dev/sda? [19:58] Well not with HP smartarray controllers.... [19:58] hm [19:59] The partition table is created, but it seems the partitions isn't formated... [20:01] And if I use ext3 I don't think it should use mke2fs to create the filesystem. I tried to set the filesystem to xfs, and still then it says it uses mke2fs to create the filesystem... [20:03] well, mke2fs -j should make an ext3 filesystem more or less [20:05] Yes, but it doesen't semm to even do that... [20:05] you're using fai 3.2.17? [20:05] Yes [20:05] maybe try it with fai 3.2.20 [20:06] Do you know in which file the code for the partitioning part is located? [20:07] /usr/sbin/setup-storage - it's perl [20:09] if you remove USE_SETUP_STORAGE=1 from class/FAIBASE.var you can also use the old format [20:09] (and the old program) [20:10] I'll try that. At the moment I don't need the new stuff... [20:12] Same result.... [20:13] i'd try it with fai 3.2.20's setup-storage. if that doesn't work but a manual debian installation does, please file a bug [20:15] Well, I'll have to find out what's wrong, I don't have the time to install 50 new servers manually the next two weeks... :) [20:16] you know how to get 3.2.20, right? [20:17] if not, just check the first link in /topic [20:18] I would prefere to use the one in lenny, but it seems I have to try that one... [20:29] I think I've found what the problem was, I've removed the FAIBASE from the class file... Now I understad why things haven't made sese...
