08:36 verwilsthellow!
08:37 verwilstwhen i try to view the FAI install with SOL ( ipmi ) i can see the BIOS boot and such, but the last line i see is "Loading vmlinuz-2.6.26-1-amd64.....................Ready."
08:37 verwilstthen nothing
08:38 verwilsti tried setting console=ttyS0 and such, to no avail
08:38 verwilstany ideas maybe?
08:38 oz_verwilst: ipmi is just service
08:38 verwilstwhen i tcpdump the nfs server i see that it is starting to use NFS
08:38 verwilstoz_: sure
08:39 verwilstbut somehow the redirection is not behaving like it should
08:39 verwilstand i'm running out of ideas on how to fix it :)
08:39 verwilstit's hard to debug the fai session if i can't see what's happening :)
08:41 oz_http://www.brueck-computer.de/index2.php?modul=1403&link=1
08:41 oz_it's nothing with FAI
Mrfai (~lange@suenner.informatik.uni-koeln.de) joined #fai.
08:41 verwilstoz_: that was my guess, but this channel was a good start, since others might have encountered this :)
08:42 oz_and I wonder what box you use
08:42 oz_I just know ipmi for the Sun VX0z
08:42 verwilstit's a dell
08:42 oz_verwilst: I read the text from the link above and all went well after fiddling
08:43 verwilsti tried the console=tty0 console=ttyS0,9600n8 before ( as far as i can understand german :) )
08:43 oz_oh. :)
08:43 oz_I can look for an english version

08:49 sepskihow can you enforce a nic order during fai boot? one nic can pxeboot, but the booted linux kernel preferes a different nic as eth0, and hence it never get ip and mount nfs after the initial kernel+initrd tftp transfer.
08:50 verwilsthm, still can't see anything, this is annoying :P
08:51 oz_verwilst: what box are you using?
08:51 verwilstoz_: a Dell one?
08:51 oz_are you using ttyS0 for ipmi?
08:52 verwilsti tried ttyS1 as well, which just gave funky chars instead of silence :)
08:52 oz_ah
08:52 oz_funky chars is an improvemnt here
08:52 oz_I'd test some baudrates
08:53 verwilstmyeah that's what i thought
08:53 oz_maybe dell want 38400 or so
08:53 verwilstdoes that really make that much difference?
08:53 verwilsthow 80's ;)
08:54 oz_verwilst: just like vintage computing and you're fine...psychologically. ;)
08:54 oz_technically, it's a mess I agree.
08:54 oz_+,
09:00 verwilstoz_: ok, so it was ttyS1
09:00 verwilsti checked the BIOS setup thingy
09:00 verwilstchanged baud to 115200
09:00 verwilstand see garbage scrolling :P
09:00 verwilst( that was the setting in the BIOS )
09:00 verwilstmaybe it's the n8?
09:04 oz_I understand you correctly, this are okay now?

09:44 sepskiargh a unused disk2 not used in the disk_config, did have lvm data on it. and it fscked with the lvm system when setup-storage tried to do lvm operations on disk1

11:34 oz_verwilst: is "boot=live" used as boot arg?
11:34 oz_what version of FAI are ou using?
11:34 verwilst3.2.16
11:35 oz_boot=live?
11:35 Mrfaialways use fai-chboot to create the pxelinux.cfg files
11:35 verwilstappend ip=dhcp FAI_CONFIG_SRC=nfs://10.129.32.91/srv/fai/config  FAI_ACTION=install root=/dev/nfs FAI_FLAGS=verbose,sshd,syslog,debug,createvt nfsroot=10.129.32.91:/srv/fai/nfsroot/live/filesystem.dir/ console=tty0  console=ttyS1,57600
11:35 verwilstoh, i copied it from a previous install
11:36 oz_add "boot=live" to it
11:37 Mrfaiverwilst: your nfsroot parameter is wrong. Use fai-chboot
11:37 verwilstok :)
11:42 verwilsthm
11:42 verwilstnot many nfs options on fai-chboot so it seems
11:43 verwilstaha
11:44 verwilstboot=live is inthere now
11:44 verwilstwhich shouldnt be?

11:50 verwilsti added the "console=tty0 console=ttyS1,57600 FAI_ACTION=install" myself
11:50 verwilststill the same though
11:52 verwilstMrfai: what's wrong with my nfsroot param?
11:52 verwilstthe system is inthere
12:01 oz_nfsroot=/srv/fai/nfsroot/ should do the trick
12:01 oz_the rest is expanded automatically from boot=live#
12:01 oz_boot=live, even.

13:25 verwilst /srv/fai/nfsroot/lenny/live/filesystem.dir?
13:26 verwilstand nfsroot=/srv/fai/nfsroot/lenny?
13:26 Mrfaiverwilst: use fai-chboot, never append live/filesystem.dir. boot=live will do the trick for you

13:29 verwilsti did! :)
13:30 Mrfaiok. are there any errors when building the nfsroot?
13:31 verwilstcould it be because i'm using a bzImage without initrd?

kai_bo (~kai@statdsl-085-016-072-173.ewe-ip-backbone.de) left irc: Quit: Verlassend
13:32 Mrfaiyep. you should use a plain debian kerne with initrd. Do not build a kernel on your own, if it is not really needed

14:18 verwilstis there that much difference between fai 3.1.8 and 3.2.16?
14:18 verwilstall of this worked in the 3.1.8
14:18 verwilstthe nfs root was directly in /srv/fai/nfsroot
14:19 verwilstand it's the same initrd-less bzImage that i'm trying to use
