| 17:54 mgoetze | if i want to run "fai softupdate" from an ssh session, is it safe to have, say, postinst scripts which run "/etc/init.d/networking restart"? if not, what can i do to make it safe? |
| fxcp (~ctp@p578b5976.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) left irc: Quit: Ex-Chat |
| 18:44 lazyb0y | mgoetze: what do you mean with "save"? |
| 18:45 lazyb0y | and what do you meann with postinst scripts? "normal" FAI scripts? |
| 18:45 mgoetze | i don't mean "save", i mean "safe" as in "will the update continue whatever happens to my ssh connection" |
| 18:46 mgoetze | and with postinst scripts i mean scripts executed by fcopy |
| 18:46 lazyb0y | ah, nopw I see :) |
| 18:46 mgoetze | e.g. /srv/fai/config/files/etc/network/interfaces/postinst |
| 18:46 lazyb0y | ah, yes, I never use those... too much magic |
| 18:46 lazyb0y | yeah, I know now |
| 18:47 mgoetze | well pretend i mean /srv/fai/config/scripts/DEFAULT/10-restart-networking ... same question :) |
| 18:47 lazyb0y | yeah |
| 18:47 lazyb0y | hmm, not sure what happens... |
| 18:48 lazyb0y | when you startthe softupdate in a screen session, it should be fine |
| 18:48 lazyb0y | (apart from that you are screwed anyway if you break your whole networking setup) |
| 18:48 mgoetze | well, i'm not screwed, actually, but that's another matter :) |
| 18:50 mgoetze | i was planning to eventually have a script to automatically log in to servers via ssh and start the softupdate, screen isn't ideal for that |
| 18:50 mgoetze | or maybe? ... hm ... |
| 18:51 lazyb0y | I'd think with screen you can be perfectly sure that the softupdate continues... |
| 18:52 lazyb0y | while without, you risk the softupdate to break if your session is terminated due to a change in the network config |

| 21:53 zirpu | anyone using FAI with ubuntu hardy? |
| 23:30 oz_ | jepp |
| 23:45 zirpu | problem I'm having is once eth0 is configured, it seesn rootserver, but no rootpath. this is in the /scripts/nfs-premount script apparently. |
| 23:45 zirpu | i consistently get a 'mount: Device or resource busy' error after that point. on the server I see an umount request of / denied, since it's not exported, or even mounted. |
