[17:33] Nick change: zirpu2 -> zirpu [17:36] I'm using ubuntu hardy as a FAI server. I can't mount the nfsroot from the server due to nfs not being in the kernel built by fai-setup. [17:36] i've tried specifying an initrd, but that leaves / as read-only. [17:37] anyone have a pointer to how to build a working install kernel that has nfs? [17:37] hints and riddles appreciated. [17:39] ubuntu hardy (8.04.1) version of fai is 3.2.4+svn4837-0ubuntu2 [17:40] zirpu: you mean the client kernel you're sending via tftp doesn't include nfs support? [17:40] right. [17:41] is there some option or configuration for fai-setup to build a kernel that includes the modules? [17:41] nfs modules i mean. [17:42] does ubuntu have a fai-kernels package, and if so, have you installed it? [17:42] (normally fai-setup doesn't build kernels...) [17:43] no, this dist of ubuntu doesn't seem to have fai-kernels available. i'll look further. [17:43] hm weird, it seems to be only in etch, not lenny [17:43] guess it got changed somehow [17:45] yes, seems to have changed after 7.04 (feisty). [17:45] well, I can use initrd, but the boot sequence doesn't remount it read-write or use the unionfs. i'll read further. [17:46] guess i can't help you, sorry. you'll have to hope someone else wakes up :) [17:46] heh. thanks. [17:46] fxcp (~ctp@p578b5976.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) joined #fai. [17:56] Joelio (~joel@office-112.zen.co.uk) left irc: Quit: Lost terminal [17:58] mgoetze, zirpu: fai-kernels is obsolete since fai 3.2.x [17:58] a normal kernel is used. [17:59] but normally, every "standard" initrd gets nfs modules and can easily boot nfs [17:59] since 3.2 you have to use initrd, yes [18:00] and livehelper stuff. [18:00] but that all should be set up correctly with make-fai-nfsroot and fai-chboot [18:00] (but I did not test it with ubuntu hardy yet) [18:01] fxcp (~ctp@p578b5976.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) left irc: Ping timeout: 480 seconds [18:02] ok. thanks. [18:07] zirpu: you might post the exact error message here or on the mailing list! [18:08] i'm using vmware, and haven't been able to see the error before it scrolls off. i'm trhing to find some logging for the console. [18:11] zirpu: try qemu, use -curses frontend? [18:19] juri_: thanks. i'm trying various break= parameters to get the error messages. [18:45] blah. no luck in getting the error message at mount for nfsroot. scrolls too fast, and the various break= parameters didn't work. [22:06] zirpu: as the root file system, you mean? [22:06] i'm not certain yet. i see on the server this: [22:07] Dec 17 22:02:19 ops03 mountd[25002]: refused unmount request from 10.1.1.110 for /root (/): not exported [22:08] currently, the client is in some loop. it apparently mounts the /srv/fai/nfsroot/live/filesystem.dir but then goes into a loop. [22:08] i'm guessing that whatever script is doing this is w/in the initrd. [22:09] this loop happens in the boot sequence when it says: Begin: Running /scripts/nfs-premount ... [22:09] then 'mount: Device or resource busy', which i think is the / unmount above., then goes through the dhcp reneg on the ip, and back to nfs-premount. [22:10] have you had a look at the contents of /scripts/nfs-premount? [22:11] the only thing i've found is an empty directory called nfs-premount [22:12] in the initrd? [22:12] looking now. [22:15] nothing in the pre-mount. [22:15] gah. [22:15] hm, fix your initrd? :) [22:16] looks like i'll have to. not sure what the problem is though. [22:16] i didn't find anything in the mailling list about this problem. so i'm worried that i'm dain bramaged. :) [22:37] siggg (~jean@tra78-5-88-172-128-32.fbx.proxad.net) left irc: Ping timeout: 480 seconds [00:00] --- Thu Dec 18 2008
