[15:04] Mrfai: Just wanted to let you know, setting up Postgres in a custom script worked like a charm. [15:04] By that time, the locales package had been installed and the default set to my preferred localization. [15:43] OK, so it seems that the locales pacakge should be installed very early, if other packages need localization [15:47] stockholm: sets a value early so fai in debian etch and an old adaptec card will install. maybe this problem goes away in lenny. [16:46] Mrfai: Yeah. [16:47] Mrfai: A hook would be ideal, but initial attempts didn't work out so well, and since I only needed it for that one package, doing it in a script was more prudent. [16:47] But I definitely see the value in having localizations set early on. [16:53] ok maybe it fine just to document this. [17:02] Mrfai: Sure. [17:11] allee_ (~ach@dialin-212-144-130-101.pools.arcor-ip.net) left irc: Ping timeout: 480 seconds [17:28] teratoma: we had problems with arcc* drivers too, since they advertise the raids as removable devices... [17:28] teratoma: we worked around that differently, wiht udev [17:30] stockholm: is this in etch? did you add more modules in DEFAULT ? what do you mean you worked around it with udev? i hope to one day more to 2.6.26+ and i will hope my problems will go away [17:30] yes, this is in etch. [17:31] we had to both change the disk-info script in fai (which is merged upstream now) and change udev to report the thing as a disk, not a cd (or what it was reported to before) [17:33] so you mean in fai 3.2.14 (lenny) . not in 3.2.8 etch [17:34] i wish i could probe the individual disks attached to the raid card with smartmontools, i guess i can't. not a fai problem though [17:35] no [17:35] and a good raid does that anyway, on its own [17:35] healthmonitoring and stuff [17:35] adaptec should do it i think [17:40] how would i be notified if a disk attached to the adaptec card failed ? [17:46] i guess a little red light goes on [17:46] not very helpful for a machine far away [18:02] Mrfai (~lange@134.95.9.202) left irc: Quit: leaving [18:03] rgsteele||work (~ryan@75.147.74.137) left irc: Remote host closed the connection [18:48] adrian15 (~a1802823@talarn.udl.es) joined #fai. [18:49] Hello. I am preparing an university thesis. It's about an automatic installation. My question is if there is a place for another FAI GUI? I mean... Does anyone of you find that GoSA have to many requisites to make it work? Another question... Do you have a FAI environment that does not work with LDAP ? [18:54] Action: h01ger uses fai in ldap and outside ldap environments [19:03] what does a gui + fai do ? [19:12] h01ger: Thank you. [19:12] teratoma: It lets you use fai without having to deal a lot with fai files ? [19:13] teratoma, you replace typing cd, vi and $vcs with moving the mouse :) [19:19] h01ger: If you had to choose a GUI for your non-ldap environments (I mean the ones that you do not use gosa)... what features would you request? [19:19] should work fine if changes are made without it [19:20] access to logfiles [19:20] schedule softupdates [19:20] use $vcs [19:28] rgsteele||work (~ryan@75.147.74.137) joined #fai. What's the use of this variable? [19:59] version control system [19:59] be it git, svn, cvs, rcs, sccs, bzr [19:59] ahm [20:00] i mostly dont mean svn or git [20:00] s/dont// [20:00] ok [20:00] I suppose that integrating vcs support in an application is a difficult task but I'll take a look at it [20:00] packages.debian.org/mr might help :) [20:00] It might be just running svn (or whatever command) with some options and that's all [20:01] mr [20:01] Action: adrian15 checking mr on the web [20:03] h01ger: So mr helps a normal user to deal with different gits, cvs, svn with a single utility... Is it that? [20:03] h01ger: Repository on its description means git,cvs,svn... it does not mean a Debian Package Repository... Isn't? [20:05] yes & yes [20:06] ok [20:06] h01ger: Thank you for everything. [20:06] adrian15 (~a1802823@talarn.udl.es) left irc: Remote host closed the connection [20:06] you're welcome. have fun ...
