10:38 BScherrerGood morning Mrfai
10:40 BScherreryou recommended a small boot-cd to me, to be able to boot from a network server which isn't the main dhcp server
10:42 BScherrernow I'm a bit stuck... the cd boots with a kernel panic "not syncing: Attempted to kill init!" after saying: "ipconfig: x.x.x.x.: SIOCGIFINDEX: No such device
10:42 BScherreripconfig: no devices to configure"
10:42 BScherrerx.x.x.x. stands for a valid IP here
10:45 BScherrerI gave grub the line:
10:45 BScherrerkernel /boot/vmlinux  boot=live FAI_FLAGS="verbose,createvt" FAI_ACTION=install ip=x.x.x.x host:gnomehost root=/dev/nfs nfsroot=/srv/fai/nfsroot
10:45 BScherrervmlinuz of course
10:46 BScherrerah, and hostname=gnomehost

12:05 troubledoh heya Mrfai, there's a name I haven't heard in a while :)
12:06 troubleda repeat of my question for anyone in the know: any ideas if the disk_config/ files intentionally ignore the "-E stride=" (or -R even) option? Any way around this? Trying to use on hardware raid. Thanks
12:07 troubledI should mention that I would prefer to know have to script a partitioning script if at all possible
12:09 Mrfaitroubled: you can write a hook if you prefer a script for partitioning
12:09 troubledokay, thats what I figured I would have to do, just double checking if it was just me or not :)
12:09 Mrfaitroubled: which commands should get the -E stride option?
12:09 troubledmkfs
12:10 troubledie: I want something like: primary / 4096- rw,noatime,errors=remount-ro    ; -j ext3 -E stride=8
12:10 Mrfaiare you using setup_harddisks or setup-storage?
12:10 troubledalthough, mkfs in debian stable says -R is also accepted for backwards compatibility
12:10 Mrfaioh i see, you are using the old setup_harddisks
12:11 troubledwhatever is in etch :)
12:11 Mrfaitry the new too, this should support all type of options
12:11 troubledone from lenny?
12:11 Mrfaiyep.
12:11 troubledill be probably upgrading soon enough to lenny when it goes stable hopefully
12:12 MrfaiBScherrer: it seems that the kernel does not recognize your network card
12:12 troubledthanks for clarifying though. Thought I was loosing it ;)
Action: troubled thanks Mrfai and the channel and waves

17:07 rgsteele||workDo I have to use make-fai-nfsroot/fai-chboot if I need a custom initrd and kernel?
17:07 rgsteele||workOr can I just generate those files, and alter the PXE boot config accordingly?
17:15 Mrfaiyou should always create a kernel package. If you just copy the kernel and its initrd into the nfsroot (and the tftp directory) the kernel will not be able to load kernel modules, because things in lib/modules will not match your kernel version
17:16 MrfaiYou should also use fai-chboot to generate your oxelinux.cfg files. read the fai-chboot man page how to specify a certan kernel (have a loo kat -s)
