[09:04] I have screwed my brain trying to get fai to run on a 3rd NIC on an edubuntu server. Anybody willing to offer (constructive) advice? [09:04] Mmmm. IIRC, currently the problem is that lock-files are created tpo prevent this. Maybe we should create those lock files on a per destination basis [09:04] this was for mikap [09:05] sorry. [10:06] should it also create pool & dist ?? [10:08] Is this the right forum to ask for assistance, or am I in the wrong place... or the wrong time??? [10:09] right place, not the wrong time [10:10] tnx [10:10] but you need some time /me is working, also [10:32] I think I have unbroken 1 step. I think my local mirror was trying to build from itself. When I had FAI_DEBOOTSTRAP pointing to the local mirror & ran fai-mirror /srv/fai/debmirror I got: [10:32] http://pastebin.com/d4c84eb02 [10:33] I pointed ˙FAI_DEBOOTSTRAP to a public mirror & fai-mirror appears to be working. [10:35] FAI_DEBOOTSTRAP should not point to the mirror you are just building with fai-mirror. [10:38] Looks like my local mirror built OK now. [10:39] Next I try make-fai-nfs-mirror with /etc/fai/apt/sources.list pointing to the local mirror? [10:40] ... or do I alter ˙FAI_DEBOOTSTRAP to point to the local mirror? [10:40] ... or both? [10:42] I your mirror was build correctly, it should work to point both to your local mirror. But I've never tried this. [20:37] h01ger: im running lenny/testing . i only see backports for etch, etch-backports . [20:38] ah, i thought you wanted to use etch [20:38] so your hardware doesnt work in lenny, but in sid? [20:40] my dell server has a broadcom nic. in etch, the nic is seen fine by the default kernel. in lenny, you need to install the firmware for the broadcom driver from unstable non-free . [20:42] yeah [20:42] same in sid [20:42] so why dont you just do so and solve your problem? ;) [20:43] i dont know how to muck around with my /etc/apt/preferences during the initial fai install. i guess i'll mess around then [20:43] look at /etc/fai/apt/sources.list [20:43] notice the "/fai" in that path [20:44] add non-free there [20:44] yes. if i stick a 'preferences' into /fai , will that get copied to each client ? [20:44] Action: h01ger thinks so [20:44] i dont want to upgrade everything to sid/unstable,i just want the driver [20:44] would have to read the code to be sure [20:44] i guess ill find out [20:44] lenny is fine [20:44] you dont need sid [20:45] and if you stay with etch, bpo has the firmware and the kernel [20:45] so you think i can find the broadcom driver in lenny ? [20:45] yes [20:45] same package as in sid [20:45] nah ive decided to throw caution to the wind and go with lenny [21:53] rhce7320 (~rhce7320@203.57.80.22) joined #fai. [00:00] --- Tue Oct 28 2008
