| 15:12 pll | What's the difference between fai.conf and make-fai-nfsroot.conf? |
| 15:12 pll | I understand that make-fai-nfsroot uses the latter, but what is the reason for having 2 different files? Why not have just have one? |

| 16:24 lazyb0y | then, there are many comments in these files, the fai-guide, and man pages, even IIRC. |
| 16:26 lazyb0y | but to make it short: make-fai-nfsroot.conf contains stuff that is only needed by make-fai-nfsroot, the other file contains some more things, which are also used by fai-setup, and at install time, by being copied into the nfsroot |
| 16:26 lazyb0y | and, fai.conf is used for softupdates |

| 17:30 pll | lazyb0y: that was not the nature of my question. I'm trying to understand essentially why they are not a single file used by both commands. |
| 17:31 pll | There doesn't seem to be much contained in either file, and since fai-setup usually calls make-fai-nfsroot, why not just have a single file and use which ever vars are required at the time. |
| 17:36 phgrau | pll: I would say, it is this way because the author(s) of fai like it this way. |
| 18:19 pll | phgrau: yes, that's obvious, and not overly helpful. I was hoping one or more of them were here to provide some insight into their design decisions. |
| 18:23 juri_ | i'm tracking and reporting a bug in setup_harddisks. its getting my BOOT_PARTITION variable wrong if i have a /boot. it didn't used to do this in 2.8.x. ;) |
| 18:44 pll | if I change a line in /etc/fai/apt/sources.list, do I need to re-run fai-setup, or can I just run 'make-fai-nfsroot -r' ? |
