| 10:08 allee | siretart: thx. So I take the one from feisty in ppa until it happens? |
| 10:09 allee | siretart: btw. shouldn't the gutsy fai pkgs refer to gusty, not feisty in fai.conf and make-fai-nfsroot.conf and sources.list? |
| 10:12 allee | siretart: that leads to the next question: bzr. I've bzr branch .../ubuntu. Can/Should I push back or should I create my own branch and uplaod to launch so you can merge whatever you like to back to ubuntu branch? |
| 10:13 allee | siretart: ah, before I forget: meeting next tuesday is fine for me |

| 11:16 allee | siretart: would be nice to have a repo that replect the contents of the packages. I've have already handful of cosmetic fixes ... |
| 11:18 siretart | allee: my branches have been created with bzr-svn, which was broken by the last bzr-svn update. updating worked, but I didn't manage to merge changes of earlier branches, so I got too annoyed |

| 14:41 Buzer | Hello. I'm trying to setup a FAI server to install Debian on one of my comps. However, it's completly headless. FAI server is running inside vmware. When I boot the machine, it gets DHCP lease & requests for pxelinux.0. I attempted to download it on vmware host machine and it worked fine |
| 14:42 Buzer | The output from tcpdump is following: http://pastebin.ca/704687 |
| 14:43 Buzer | If you need any other information, say & I will provide it |
| 15:13 sheldonh | does 3.1.8' |
| 15:13 sheldonh | does 3.1.8's make-fai-nfsroot have hooks, so i can install my own stuff into the nfs root? or must i write a wrapper script |
| 15:17 sheldonh | Buzer: you said "when i boot the machine"... are you talking about when you boot the fai server or the fai client? |
| 15:19 Buzer | sheldonh: Fai client |
| 15:20 sheldonh | Buzer: okay, then i missed the question. you've got a fai server, and when you boot the fai client, it gets a dhcp lease and requests pxelinux.0. where's the problem? |
| 15:21 Buzer | It requested pxelinux.0 only. Nothing happend past that. I managed to get farther tho & now it at least mounts NFS |
| 15:22 Buzer | And is fai server a special executable? I can't find it from /etc/init.d at least. There is fai-start-stop-daemon executable in /sbin at least |
| 15:24 sheldonh | Buzer: the docs say the nfsroot runs an init replacement called fai, but i don't see that in /sbin |
| 15:25 sheldonh | ah |
| 15:25 sheldonh | Buzer: /usr/sbin/fai |
| 15:25 Buzer | Yeah. It's in the NFS mount |

| 16:29 torkel | siretart: yes. We are running dapper on all or clusters and servers |
| 16:29 siretart | torkel: I see |
| 16:29 torkel | siretart: we need the LTS support |
| 16:29 siretart | torkel: my production install server here is also running dapper, but the nfsroot is a feisty one, because I install feisty workstation |
| 16:30 siretart | torkel: if live-initramfs doesn't work in dapper, it would be interesting to know why. We can 'fix' by uploading package to our ppa for dapper |
| 16:32 torkel | siretart: we are planning for the next cluster, but don't want to break our current ones, so I thought I should try with the newest FAI version |
| 16:32 torkel | siretart: I will see what I can do. Seems to be something in mountroot that breaks |
| 16:33 siretart | torkel: I'd probably try using an updated initramfs-tools packgage in the dapper nfsroot |
| 16:34 siretart | torkel: or creating a feisty nfsroot, and installing dapper from a dapper base.tgz, which you would need to create yourself using debootstrap |
| 16:34 torkel | yeah, I noticed that earlier that it might be to old/broken |
| 16:35 siretart | if you can confirm that all whats needed is an updated initramfs-tools package, feel free to upload it |
| 16:36 torkel | siretart: eeeew, been there with a really old FAI, when we were installing Woody. I don't want to go there again |
| 16:36 torkel | siretart: sure. I have a lot of other stuff to do currently so it may take a while |
| 16:36 siretart | I didn't say that I was too confident with that idea either :) |

| 16:46 allee | anyone knows if this beast will boot? http://paste.debian.net/37605 sfdisk whines about partition not on boundry. I would have to use --force |

| 17:15 theBro | allee: the partition having problems seems to be laptop manufactures rescue/software partition and shouldn't affect the bootability of the system. I am not sure but the new partition table might make the dell partition un-usable as the beginning of the partition seems to be lost (I have always gotten rid of manufacturer partitions and have never regretted, nor have I used winblows in 10+ yrs) |
| 17:24 allee | theBro: thx. I've --force now (via sfdisk=--force variable). I don't care about Dell Utils too. To get rid of Dell Utils the work is not worth the space one wins. so I leave it + the preinstalled (shrunken) Windoof |

| 17:38 allee | ubuntu/gusty: below /srv/tftp/fai there are {vmlinux,initrd.img}-<kvers>-<api>-<flavour> and the pxeconfig.cfg/* files use these names. Is this ubuntu specific? IMHO it's not a good idea to use name with <api> (and kvers) in them, because in the development version sid/gusty kvers and api change frequently. <api> may change in security updates too for stable releases. |
| 17:39 allee | wouldn't it be better to use symlinks vmlinuz-<flavor> -> vmlinuxz-<kvers>-<api>-<flavour> ? |
| 17:44 h01ger | sounds reasonable |
| 17:46 allee | h01ger: have you tried 3.2 on debian? Is it the same there? |
| 17:47 h01ger | not sure, i dont use pxe personally |
| 17:47 allee | heh, I've never tried anything else than pxe ;) |
| 17:51 torkel | allee: I think m-f-n just copies whatever vmlinuz/initrd.img it finds in the nfsroot to /s/t/fai/ |
| Nick change: \sh_away -> \sh_away_away |
| 18:15 allee | torkel: right, found it. fai-chboot just takes the last file matching vmlinux*$opt_s. As kvers start with number and <flavour> with a letter, linux-<flavour> sorts after linux-<kvers>-... |
| 18:15 allee | so just fixing make-fai-nfsroot to add an additional link would give back < 3.2 behaviour |
