| 12:11 paljas | Hi, (new to fai), anyone awake? |
| 12:12 paljas | I'd like to try fai for installing ubuntu i386 clients |
| 12:12 Mrfai | And? Just do it. OR do you have any problems? |
| 12:13 paljas | So I've installed ubuntu server amd64, however that has 2.10.1 |
| 12:13 paljas | I looks like the docs suggests 3.x is better for multi arch stuff? |
| 12:14 Mrfai | Just add this line to your sources.list |
| 12:14 Mrfai | deb http://www.informatik.uni-koeln.de/fai/download etch koeln |
| 12:14 Mrfai | Then adjust the few things from debian to ubuntu mirrors. Maybe one or two package names will differ too. |
| 12:16 paljas | Oke, will try that. There isn't a ubuntu version which already has 3.x? |
| 12:17 Mrfai | I don't know |
| ErKa (keryell@m6.wifi.enstb.org) joined #fai. |
| 12:24 h01ger | paljas, packages.ub |
| 12:24 h01ger | paljas, packages.u.c/fai |
| 12:37 paljas | Oke, it looks like ubuntu 7.04 i386 has 3.1.3ubuntu1, where as my server (6.06 LTS amd64) has 2.10.1. I did what Mrfai said, and will now adjust the configfile to what the ones on the 7.04 pc have. |
| 13:00 lazyb0y | paljas: I don't know exactly what fixes were needed for FAI in Ubnutu - I'd guess you'd better take the fai packages from feisty - there should not be much troubles installing them on dapper |
| 13:01 lazyb0y | especially when you want to install feisty clients, too, this seems to be the best idea(until you know FAI better and transfer diffs needed for ubuntu into the newest upstream version of fai for etch) |

| 13:19 h01ger | (sudo apt-get install rss2email ; r2e add http://ubuntu-patches.sesse.net/by-maintainer/lange%40debian.org.rss) and you're done, if you have email setup correctly. |
| 13:22 Mrfai | Even it seems to be simple to set up (It's always much more than this, because I have to include it in my environment), I will not use it. |

| 17:52 catlee | Hello |
| 17:52 catlee | Has anybody had any luck testing FAI out in qemu or some other virtual machine? |
| 17:52 juri_ | yes. |
| 17:53 catlee | good or bad luck? :) |
| 17:53 juri_ | i have a fresh install of FAI in a VM i did last night. qemu current. |
| 17:53 catlee | awesome |
| 17:53 juri_ | it pretty much required the CVS version of qemu, however. |
| 17:53 Mrfai | I'm using PXE boot in VM workstation. Works great. |
| 17:54 juri_ | mrfai: non free software user you. :) |
| 17:54 MT | catlee, what about Xen? |
| 17:54 Mrfai | juri_: are you happy that we have now a good workaround for fai-cd by using the sarge packages? |
| 17:55 catlee | I don't have Xen set up on my machine |
| 17:56 juri_ | mrfai: i havent started that battle. |
| 17:56 juri_ | as a matter of fact, as soon as my small fires are out here, i'm starting on turning my fai-cd installed faiserver image (updated to unstable) into a fai-cd server. |
| 17:56 juri_ | so, expect to be hearing from me. i'd log out of irc now, if i were you. :) |
| Action: juri_ waits for it... |
| 18:17 catlee | this may be blasphemous...but has anybody tried using FAI to dual-boot a bunch of machines with windows and linux? |

| 18:20 Mrfai | catlee: yes, I had to confess. Installed Linux on a thinkpad that had already this big binary blob on the first partition. |
| 18:24 Mrfai | the disk geometry may be a problem. setting the variable sfdisk='--force" in class/*.var will help to stop sfdisk complaining about that. |
| 18:25 catlee | So you just copy over an image of an installed windows partition? |
| 18:46 Mrfai | no. I just do not touch the wind partition. |
| 18:46 catlee | ah |
